Nigerian senator, Ali Ndume, has got into serious trouble with the law, after the disappearance of Abdulrasheed Maina. Maina was accused of fraud to the tune of over NGN 2 billion; and had the option of bail.
It was Senator Ali Ndume that stood in as surety for him. To qualify as surety, he had to deposit documents of properties worth NGN 500 million in the court.
But Abdulrasheed Maina has broken his bail conditions and is nowhere to be found. Hence, the senator has been arrested and remanded in Kuje prison, until his properties are sold.
They have already been forfeited to the court as a penalty for the default. However, the senator has asked his legal team to file an appeal against the forfeiture.
Ali Ndume is the Chairman, Senate Committee on the Nigerian Armed Forces. He is also a member of the ruling All Progressives Congress, from Borno State.
