The coverage of the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development now includes the recently established National Commission for People with Disabilities — established by President Buhari.
The Minister in charge, Hajia Umar Farouq led members of the new commission to President Buhari on January 8, 2021. She was also there on a “Thank you” visit to President Buhari for signing the Disability Act into law.
She decried the worrying statistics that 95% of public buildings in Nigeria are not accessible to persons with disabilities.
The new commission for persons with disabilities will advance the cause of people with disabilities in Nigeria. They will have a voice in government and get better packages in terms of welfare for those with disabilities.
